Why is this an Issue?

Quick Facts

The business world is male dominated and women who run and/or own business are often less well-known. Since there is less representation, it can be hard for girls and women who wish to get involved to know where or how to start.

It also can depend on the opportunities and stability of the country is which the business is being brought up and run in.

Although female owned and run businesses are gaining numbers throughout the years, they are not as often highlighted or known that women own and run them.

Nationally

  • Women today lead 167 out of 3,000 of the top companies

    • That is less than 6%

  • 40% of businesses in the United States are women-owned

    • Less than half

  • 62% of women entrepreneurs cite their business as their primary source of income

Globally

  • Only 1 in 3 small, medium, or large businesses are owned by women

  • In low-income countries, only 1 in 4 businesses have any female owners

  • In middle- and high-income countries, the rates are at 36% and 37%, respectively
